Peace Bridge Tolls Move to Currency Parity

(BUFFALO, NY/FORT ERIE, ON) – The Buffalo and Fort Erie Public Bridge Authority today moved to adopt currency parity for tolls at the Peace Bridge.

Car tolls will be $3.00 in either currency for a round trip and all commercial tolls will also be at parity, effective December 1, 2007.

“Clearly the rapid rise of the Canadian dollar led to a toll differential that was untenable and the Board acted to rectify that situation” said Anthony Annunziata, Chairman of the Authority.

The Authority Board today also approved a toll currency policy that will adjust bridge tolls semi-annually should there be a discrepancy between the U.S. and Canadian currencies.

Chairman Annunziata also stressed the Peace Bridge has been the only international crossing that for years has offered the actual exchange rate through its E-ZPass system. “We encourage people to sign up for E-ZPass because it gives a 10% discount over the cash rate, recognizes the actual exchange, and provides the quickest service.” Sign up for E-ZPass can be done over the phone by calling 1-866-522-6080.
