Statement on Busti Avenue Demolitions
February 23, 2013
On Friday afternoon, the United States District Court denied a petitioning organization's motion and determined that "the public interest would not be furthered by the granting of a preliminary injunction" regarding the demolition of several abandoned and dilapidated houses located along Busti Avenue.
Such a ruling confirms the Buffalo and Fort Erie Public Bridge Authority's adherence – as an international compact entity – to proper legal procedures and voluntary environmental review processes during demolition planning.
This definitive legal decision permits the Authority to resume long-standing plans to remove the blighted Busti Avenue structures in favor of green space and additional Peace Bridge Customs plaza landscaping and buffering.
As a result, the Authority will be completing demolition in a swift and expedited manner.
