NEXUS is a bi-national Trusted Traveler Program designed to expedite the border clearance process for low-risk, pre-approved travelers and provide a dedicated Customs lane.

The NEXUS application fee is $120(USD) for a five year membership.

NEXUS  is by far the most effective and efficient travel document when travelling between the United States and Canada with much shorter border wait times.

NEXUS cards allow members to:

  • Use dedicated vehicle lanes at 20 designated land border crossing including Buffalo and Fort Erie
  • Use self-serve NEXUS kiosks or eGates when entering Canada at nine major international airports
  • Use U.S. Global Entry kiosks for entry into the U.S.
  • Receive expedited clearance through CATSA security screening lines at major and select mid-sized airports in Canada
  • Receive expedited clearance through the U.S. Transportation Security Administration Pre-Check lines at over 200 participating U.S. airports including Buffalo
  • Clear the border by boat using the Telephone Reporting Centre and preregister your arrival at 426 designated sites

What is the benefit of NEXUS?

Membership saves you time by allowing you to use a dedicated Customs inspection lane while traveling back and forth between Canada and the United States. 

Where can NEXUS be used?

NEXUS dedicated Customs inspection lanes are available in the Buffalo Niagara Region at the Peace Bridge, as well as the Whirlpool-Rapids Bridge, which is a crossing for NEXUS holders only. Please note that the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge provides dedicated NEXUS service for Canadian-bound travelers only, while the Rainbow Bridge provides NEXUS service exclusively for United States-bound travelers.

*During peak volume, the Canada Border Services Agency will assist travelers by opening a second NEXUS lane. Traffic directors will re-direct cars waiting in the dedicated NEXUS lane to the second lane of operation as required.

**A second United States NEXUS lane is operational during high peak volume and is indicated open when the lane indicator light is flashing yellow.

What is the cost?

Membership is only $120 U.S. and is valid for 5 years – NEXUS cards for children under 18 years old are FREE of charge.

Where are the NEXUS Offices?

NEXUS offices are located on each side of the Peace Bridge. Applicants will need to visit both CBSA and CBP on their respective sides of the bridge when they visit for the interview phase of the application process. To begin the process, start on the Canadian side.

NEXUS Canada

The Canadian NEXUS office is located at 10 Central Avenue in Fort Erie and can be seen on the map below. You can call the Fort Erie enrollment center at 905-994-6010.

NEXUS U.S.A

The U.S. NEXUS office is located at 1 Peace Bridge Plaza in Buffalo and can be seen on the map below. You can call the Buffalo enrollment center at 716-888-4978.
