Span honors nearly 100 holidays and regional causes; 2016 lighting requests now being accepted

BUFFALO, NY/FORT ERIE, ON – Today the Buffalo and Fort Erie Public Bridge Authority (Peace Bridge Authority) announced that in 2015, the Peace Bridge was illuminated in recognition of nearly 100 local and national causes.


“The Peace Bridge Authority is proud to do our part in raising awareness for charitable causes in both Canada and the United States,” said Anthony Annunziata, Chairman of the Peace Bridge Authority. “We will continue to pay tribute to issues important to the bi-national community, for requests that meet the established criteria.”

The Peace Bridge is also illuminated to honor area sports teams and Canadian and American holidays: Buffalo Bills home games, Buffalo Sabres home games, Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, Victoria Day, Memorial Day, Canada Day, Friendship Festival, Independence Day, Canadian Thanksgiving, Halloween, Veterans Day/Remembrance Day, U.S. Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Eve.

For specialty lighting occasions, the Peace Bridge is illuminated along the bridge arches, truss, and spine, and can include intermittent color animation. Light shows commence at dusk and continue until 1:00 a.m. (EST).

The Buffalo and Fort Erie Public Bridge Authority, a binational bridge authority, has owned and operated the Peace Bridge since 1933. The bridge, which was opened to traffic in 1927, spans the Niagara River between Fort Erie, Ontario, and Buffalo, New York, and is a key international border crossing.
