Peace Bridge Authority Supportive of Customs Plaza Improvements
BUFFALO, NY/FORT ERIE, ON – The Buffalo and Fort Erie Public Bridge Authority (PBA) is supportive of the initiatives announced by Congressmen Higgins and Collins today.
“The PBA enjoys an excellent working relationship with Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and the General Services Administration (GSA) and collectively we will continue to advance projects that improve the efficiency, functionality and aesthetics of the Peace Bridge border crossing”, said Ken Manning, Chair of the PBA. “Further, we recognize that a team approach is the only way to achieve a U.S. plaza that we can all be proud of and to that end we appreciate Governor Cuomo’s support in the recently completed New York State Gateway project at the Peace Bridge, and the efforts of Senator Schumer in advancing the border pre-clearance concept that will enable these improvements to proceed."
The PBA is currently in the midst of a $175 million five year capital plan, including the ongoing bridge rehabilitation project. Approximately $50 million has been allocated to enhancing U.S. Customs inspection capacity. To achieve the desired U.S. Customs plaza additional federal funds will need to be committed for the buildings and facilities that are the responsibility of GSA and CBP.
