(BUFFALO, NY/FORT ERIE, ON) – Just four months from now U.S. and Canadian citizens will no longer be able to cross the Niagara River to enter the United States by simply showing a regular driver’s license and one other piece of government issued ID.

Beginning June 1, 2009, in accordance with the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) only the following documents will be permissible:

(BUFFALO, NY/FORT ERIE, ON) – The Peace Bridge Authority (PBA) is now making available to users of web-enabled cell phones the ability to check traffic conditions at bridges crossing the Niagara River on a new mobile website – mobile.peacebridge.com.

This new service is in addition to the live Peace Bridge webcams that travelers have been able to view on the website www.peacebridge.com. The website allows people to look for border crossing identification requirements, check traffic conditions to assist in avoiding border delays, and get directions to various destinations via the Peace Bridge.

(BUFFALO, NY/FORT ERIE, ON) – Effective January 15, 2009, tolls charged in Canadian funds will be adjusted at the Peace Bridge to reflect the lower value of the Canadian dollar.

The Canadian toll rate will be changed to $3.75 Canadian (round trip). The benchmark U.S. cash toll rate remains at $3.00 U.S. The E-ZPass discounted rate remains at $2.70 U.S.

(BUFFALO, NY/FORT ERIE, ON) – The Peace Bridge Authority (PBA) has decided to honor its Chairman, Paul Koessler, who passed away this summer, by sponsoring a $5,000/year transportation/bridge engineering scholarship at the State University of New York at Buffalo (UB). The scholarship will run for 10 years.

BUFFALO, NY/FORT ERIE, ON. – Again this year, the Buffalo and Fort Erie Public Bridge Authority (Peace Bridge Authority) announces that it will not charge tolls on Thursday, December 25, in celebration of the Christmas holiday. The toll-free period will be in effect for 24 hours beginning at 12 AM Christmas morning.

“As a 24 hour per day, people-driven operation we wanted to look at ways that we could say thank you to our customers and our employees,” said Ken Schoetz the Peace Bridge Authority’s Chairman. “By not charging tolls on Christmas, we’re able to spread some holiday cheer and give as many of our employees as possible an opportunity to spend the day with their families.”
